The first day of April was fairly uneventful for me. I'm so glad to see the weather finally warm up, not that it gets ridiculously cold in Shreveport, LA. In my war against pollen and all other allergens, I spent most of the day feverishly cleaning my house. We're having guests over for the Easter weekend. After all, nobody likes the smell of dog hair and dirty laundry in the morning. I felt like Donna Reed, wafting from room to room in a black and white sundress, straitening and dusting random things. The only thing I was missing was my pearls and black pumps. I'm sure my husband thought I must have been angry about something; I clean to release tension/frustration. (Don't knock it, my therapist says it's a healthy habit.) Anger wasn't my motivation this time. Having a clean environment supports mental clarity. There's nothing like the smell of lemon fresh PineSol and bleach to motivate you to achieve your full potential!

| When I was a little girl, I secretly wanted to be like Donna Reed, just a more productive, slightly OCD urban version. I blame it on my grandma...she could put Donna's homemaker skills to shame. |
The Clash...
So after cleaning like a mad woman for hours, and running errands all over town, my husband suggests that we go to a midnight movie. (I don't think it was a good idea on his part because he was late for work this morning...I knew he'd oversleep.) Of course I'm never one to say no to much needed quality time, so I agreed to see Clash of the Titans in 3D. Although the 3D effects weren't as impressive as I thought they would be, it was a relatively good movie-- visually pleasing and pretty engaging. Sam Worthington played his usual character of the hot warrior/soldier that conquers the scary monster. He's had a really good year, especially after his performance in Avatar. (Loved it by the way.) I would have liked to see the plot go into more depth and see more development of the characters. Being that I'm a fan of Greek mythology, I enjoyed the plot--it felt familiar. I always liked hearing the stories in grade school and the 2010 version brought back memories of watching the 1981 version of Clash of the Titans with my grandparents. The 1981 version was a favorite of mine as a kid. Who didn't want to ride the Pegasus and fight monsters that had live snakes as hair?! (It's obvious from these statements that I wasn't a very girly little girl.) Check out the movie trailer below.
The jokes on me...
So I logged on to the Internet this morning only to be greeted by Scarface being performed by a bunch of kids as a school play. After watching this video, I was slightly horrified and awestruck. I'm not taking it too seriously though. Apparently it's a parody by director, Marc Klasfeld, attempting to make a statement about how sex and violence is effecting our children. (Not that I have any children of my own.) But I agree with the idea that the director is trying to communicate. Children in today's society are constantly bombarded by violence and sex. Sexual undertones and violence are frequently conveyed in some of the cartoons kids watch on a daily basis. That's not to say that all the cartoons out today are bad influences that make kids brain's rot. Kids today are smarter and more intuitive than ever, and I hope the shock value of this YouTube video makes people think twice about how we are really handling children. Yes, secretly I admit that I thought it was funny. I would never let my child participate in anything like it, but I get the point being made. Don't freak out people...read between the lines and apply as necessary.
One viral video doesn't signify the decay of mankind's moral compass.
